About SHAMS

SHAMS launched in 2017 as Sharjah's answer to the demand for an affordable, media-forward free zone capable of attracting freelancers, content creators, and small digital businesses. Entry costs have historically been among the lowest in the UAE, with packages starting below AED 5,750 per year, making it a serious option for sole traders who need a legitimate UAE license without Dubai pricing. The zone's media orientation means it is purpose-built for journalism, publishing, photography, social media management, video production, and PR, activities often awkwardly categorized under generic service licenses elsewhere. SHAMS allows single-shareholder company formation with 100% foreign ownership and a fully digital setup process. Visa eligibility starts at one visa per license, expandable with package upgrades. Physical office space in Sharjah is substantially cheaper than Dubai equivalents for businesses that do need a footprint. The main trade-off is address prestige: a Sharjah location carries less weight than Dubai in some client conversations, and certain bank accounts may require more documentation before approval. For freelancers, content creators, and digital agency founders who prioritize low overhead over prestige, SHAMS is frequently the most financially rational choice in the UAE. The zone also includes specific activity categories for e-sports, gaming, and influencer management that are absent from most traditional zones.
